Itinerary
Upon arrival in Amman, you will be welcomed by your Cox & Kings local representative and transferred to your hotel. Four Seasons Hotel (Deluxe Room) – 4-nights
Embark upon a walking tour of old Amman to see the ancient ruins of the Temple of Hercules and the massive Roman theater. If there’s time this afternoon, visit the Royal Auto Museum and the King Hussein Mosque. (B)
Discover the ancient city of Jerash and watch a re-enactment of a Roman Chariot Race in the 2,000-year-old Hippodrome. Drive to Umm Qais, from where you can see Lake Tiberias, the Yarmouk River Canyon and the Golan Heights, all part of the Great Rift Valley. (B, L)
This morning, depart on a scenic drive into Amman’s desert, where Umayyad Caliphs of the early Islamic area built a series of palaces. Also, take a scenic walk through the Azraq Wetland Reserve. (B)
Embark upon a classic drive along the King’s Highway toward the lost city of Petra. Along the way, marvel at the stunning mosaics in Madaba and visit the imposing crusader castle at Kerak. From here, continue to the Dana Nature Reserve. Dana Guest House (En Suite Room) – 1-night (B, D)
Rise early today and depart on your 5-6 hour guided trek through Dana Reserve, which takes you by Bedouin camps scattered throughout the region. Your trek ends at the western edge of the reserve, at the Feynan Eco-Lodge, which is built in a traditional design and lit by solar power and candlelight. Your drive to Petra today takes you from desert to mountain pass. This evening, experience the beautiful spectacle of Petra by Night (available on Monday, Wednesday & Thursday). On these occasions, the approach to the Treasury through the narrow Siq is lit by thousands of candles whose flickering light casts an eerie, moving and bewitching atmosphere. Spend the day exploring the red sandstone city of Petra, built 2,000 years ago by nomadic Bedouins. From the narrow, winding passageway of the Siq and the great Treasury to the hilltop Monastery, discoveries await you at every turn. (B, L)
Today, travel to Wadi Rum and enjoy a camel ride through ancient valleys and towering weathered sandstone mountains. Return to Petra for the evening. (B)
Optional: Enjoy a spectacular sunrise hot air balloon flight over Wadi Rum.
Drive to the Dead Sea, the lowest point on earth, and transfer to your luxury resort overlooking the sea. Kempinski Ishtar (Deluxe Room) – 3-nights (B)
Enjoy an easy trek through the spectacular scenery of the Wadi Mujib Nature Reserve, often called Jordan’s Grand Canyon. (B, L)
